Sundell vs. Buntan II, Kelly v. Khan, Xiong vs. Wondergirl Added… – ONE Championship

A couple of World Championship matches and an innovative surprise matchup have been added to ONE Fight Night 14: Stamp vs. Ham on Prime Video in Singapore, and those contests will feature some of the best female athletes on the planet.
Reigning queen of strawweight muay thai Smilla Sundell will defend his gold in a rematch with the Filipino-American star jackie buntanwhile daniel kelly he will face an old rival jessa khan for the inaugural live US prime time atomic weight submission grappling crown on Friday, September 29.
Also, longtime ONE Women’s Strawweight MMA World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan will go head to head with the thai prodigy Nat “Wonder Girl” Jaroonsak in a unique contest that is designed with special hitting rules.
Sundell has been unbeatable since making his promotional debut last year.
He Swedish teen sensation knocked out Diandra Martin in February 2022 and then frustrated buntan over the course of five rounds to claim the inaugural ONE Women’s Strawweight Muay Thai world title just two months later.
In the process, Sundell, then 17 years old, became the youngest ONE World Champion ever.
Now barely two months away from her successful kickboxing debutThe Swede will return for her first world title defense at ONE Fight Night 14, and she will face a familiar foe.
Since losing to Sundell last year, Buntan has had a couple of massive wins. The Californian defeated the British phenomenon amber kitchen by unanimous decision in December 2022 and then finished Martin via first-round TKO this past May.
With incredible momentum behind her, Buntan hopes to avenge her earlier loss and win the richest prize in sports in front of a US primetime audience.
The card will also feature ONE’s first ever Women’s Atomicweight Submission Grappling World Title fight, which will be contested by Kelly and Khan.
This is a rematch of their February 2021 battle, which Khan won via decision, but a lot has changed since that night.
Kelly signed with ONE Championship a year later and kicked off the rise of the promotion’s women’s submission grappling divisions.
The American first earned a performance bonus while fighting two-time MMA women’s atomic weight world title challenger ONE Mei Yamaguchi to a draw, before picking up victories over four-time Combat Sambo World Champion Maria Molchanova and former ONE Women’s Strawweight MMA World Title challenger ayaka miura.
As for Khan, he went on to capture the 2023 IBJJF Gi world title in the light featherweight division last June, beating a field of 16 women to claim the gold medal.
And on September 29, the Cambodian-American looks to defeat Kelly once again and add a historic ONE World Championship belt to her trophy case.
Additionally, ONE’s first Rules Strike Contest Special will take place at ONE Fight Night 14, and the two contestants come from brilliant stand-up backgrounds.
Xiong, who has held the ONE Women’s MMA World Strawweight Championship since its inauguration in January 2018, was previously a member of the Chinese National Boxing Team.
Meanwhile, “Wondergirl” is a two-time muay thai champion from Thailand who competed in boxing matches when she was young. The 24-year-old made a successful transition to MMA last year and will return to competing in the full sport in UNO Friday the 26th Fights on July 21.
For the special rules match at ONE Fight Night 14, both participants will wear 4-ounce MMA gloves and may only throw punches. That means kicks, knees and elbows are prohibited.
If there is no knockout or stoppage, the fight will go to the scorecards. Judging and scoring will reflect the Muay Thai and Kickboxing Global Rule Sets using the mandatory 10 point system.
These two world title matchups and the special rules in effect join the previously announced ONE Interim Women’s Atomicweight MMA World Title Fight Between Former Queen of Two Sports Fairtex seal and decorated Asian MMA champion Seo Hee Ham.
With a quartet of all-female mass matchups at the top of the card, ONE Fight Night 14 is taking the lead from ONE: EMPOWERthe organization’s all-female event in September 2021 that featured the world’s best athletes across multiple sports.
