South Warwickshire rugby club’s community spirit scores award – Leamington Observer

COMMUNITY spirit is alive and well at Old Leamingtonians Rugby Club.

The Bericote Road club has scooped the Community Club of the Year title at the annual The Club Mirror Mag Awards.

The awards, now in their 31st year, recognise clubs of all kinds from across the UK – from sports clubs to social and community clubs – and the role they play in their communities.

Old Leamingtonians was chosen for its outstanding contributions to the local community and the broader rugby fraternity.

The club has long used the sport of rugby as a vehicle for positive change. Through various initiatives, the club has demonstrated its dedication to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for individuals of all ages and backgrounds.

Among the club’s notable achievements are its grassroots programs and the successful age grade rugby and mixed ability rugby, which have introduced rugby to a diverse range of participants, fostering a love for the sport and promoting physical fitness.

And off the pitch, the club has been actively involved in charitable causes, partnering with local organisations to support community welfare projects.

The club has just teamed-up with Green4 Motor Company Coventry to collect donations for food banks in Leamington and Coventry this Christmas.

Non-perishable food item donations can be dropped off at the club’s ground or at Green4 Motor Company dealerships.

Gemma Lewis, club chair and director of women’s rugby, said the club was honoured to receive the The Club Mirror Mag Awards recognition.

“Receiving the Community Club of the Year award is a tremendous honour and a reflection of the hard work and commitment of our members, volunteers, and the entire Old Leamingtonians RFC community.

“We believe in the power of sport, especially rugby to bring people together, and this award inspires us to continue our efforts in creating a positive impact on the lives of those around us.”
