Soccer adds Warren Russ as assistant coach – University of… – Soonersports.com

A veteran in the college soccer coaching ranks, Russ has coached every division of college soccer since 1990. Most recently, Russ spent the last year as the head coach of the men’s soccer team at Division III Millsaps (Miss.) College. .
“I’m thrilled to add Warren to our staff,” said Mott, OU’s first-year coach. “He is one of the greatest soccer minds I know. His playing experience as a professional goalkeeper, along with his extensive experience as a coach, make him a great option to add to our staff here at OU.”
Russ has made numerous coaching stops throughout his 30-plus years at the collegiate level, leading the Georgia Southwestern State men’s team from 2007 to 2019 prior to his time at Millsaps College. Other stops along the way include the University of Georgia women’s team (1995-2000), UCF men’s team (1990-93), Gwinnett Association Football (2001-02) and Bayer 04 Leverkusen of the Bundesliga. German (1994-95).
A four-year winner at the University of Central Florida, graduating in 1990, Russ continued his professional career in the English Football League, American Professional Soccer League, and United Soccer League from 1990 to 1999, the same time he was beginning his career. as a coach. In addition, Russ has experience at the national team level, serving as an assistant to Team USA to a gold medal performance at the 2013 Maccabiah World Games and leading the team as head coach at the 2015 Maccabiah Pan American Games. .
A native of Coral Springs, Fla., Russ received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Marketing from UCF in 1990. He holds a “C” Level National Trainer’s License and an NSCAA National Advanced Trainer’s License.
Russ’s hiring at Oklahoma was made possible by a decision by the NCAA Division I Council in January to increase the number of head coaches in select sports effective July 1. Russ rounds out Mott’s staff in his first season as head coach, joining Richard Beebe and Jessica Hiskey as assistant coaches. Beebe and Hiskey joined Mott in coming to OU from Ole Miss.
The OU football team kicks off the 2023 season in August, with its first exhibition game at John Crain Field scheduled for August 6 against Baylor.
