ST. GEORGE — A pair of shutouts and a match called early due to lightning highlighted action in Region 9 girls soccer Thursday night.
Dixie held on to beat Pine View 2-1 after a lengthy delay due to nearby lightning forced the match to be called about midway through the second half.
Crimson Cliffs won on the road and Snow Canyon won big at home in other matches as Desert Hills had the night off.
Following are recaps of the last week on the pitch in Region 9 girls soccer action, starting with Thursday night’s games.
Dixie 2, Pine View 1
The Panthers were primed to make a comeback before Mother Nature forced an early end to the match.
Taryn Hafen and Allee Williams scored in the first half for Dixie, but the young Panthers responded with a marker from Alicia Garcia.
All three tallies were long-distance shots as the players won the ball just outside the box, found enough space to get some room and put their shots past the goalkeepers.
Garcia’s score was the second goal of the season for Pine View, which still seeks its first win (0-8 overall, 0-5 Region 9).
Dixie (3-5, 3-2) moved into third place in the Region 9 standings.
Crimson Cliffs 3, Cedar 0
At Cedar, Crimson Cliffs found the net twice in the first half and added another insurance goal in the second half as the Mustangs shut out the Reds.
Freshman Macey Woolley, junior Quinci Smith and senior Isabella Cotter each scored for Crimson Cliffs, while senior goalkeeper Kenadee Richey picked up the shutout.
Cotter and Avery Cardenas dispensed assists in the win.
The Mustangs improved to 7-2, 5-0 after the win and are on a collision course with co-region leader Desert Hills.
Snow Canyon 6, Hurricane 0
A pair of hat tricks paced the Warriors to a comfortable win at home.
Lottie Smith and Ashlee Harris both scored three goals to lead the Warriors, who tallied three times in each half.
Jolee Irvin led the helper parade for Snow Canyon with three assists. Lilly Witwer distributed two assists and Sydnee Crowton recorded one.
Allie Lemmon posted the shutout in goal for the Warriors, who improved to 5-5, 3-3 and moved into fourth in the Region 9 standings.
Hurricane, meanwhile, fell to 2-6, 0-5 and is sixth in the region.
Region 9 soccer games, Aug. 24
Desert Hills 4, Pine View 0
Carly Knudsen scored twice and Kamri Yergensen and Izzy Miller each had a marker in the Desert Hills victory.
Ellie Hendrix assisted three scores and Kimber Clawson set up the fourth for the winners. Tess Peterson recorded the shutout in the net.
Crimson Cliffs 2, Snow Canyon 1, OT
At Snow Canyon, the Mustangs scored in the first half, the Warriors equalized in the second and then Crimson Cliffs got the winner in extra time.
Isabella Cotter assisted both scores for the winners, setting up Quinci Smith and Kate Garrett for the Crimson Cliffs goals.
Lottie Smith netted Snow Canyon’s lone marker.
Dixie 1, Hurricane 0
Brinlee Bennett’s score in the first half stood up for the Flyers’ win in Hurricane.
Region 9 soccer games, Aug. 29
Snow Canyon 10, Cedar 0
Lilly Witwer led the prolific Warriors attack against the Reds, scoring three times and assisting two scores.
Ashley Harris had two goals and two assists for Snow Canyon.
Five Warriors netted solo goals – Ronnie Weston, Millie Warner, Lottie Smith, Jolee Irvin and Eleanor Armour.
Amelia Nadauld and Anna Monson recorded assists in the win, as did Smith and Warner. Irvin finished with two helpers.
Allie Lemmon posted the shutout in goal.
Desert Hills 8, Hurricane 0
The Thunder struck five times in the first half and added three more in the second, rolling at home against the Tigers.
Ellie Hendrix scored four times and assisted three other scores in the win.
Hendrix, bound for Utah State next year, has 12 goals and 12 assists on the season.
Emery Simister tallied twice and assisted once for the winners while Lexy Patton scored and assisted once against the Tigers.
Lilly Evans scored, Hannah Heaton assisted and Dottie Bethers finished with two goals to round out the Thunder scoresheet.
Tess Peterson had the shutout in goal for the Thunder.
Crimson Cliffs 2, Dixie 0
Macey Woolley scored and assisted both efforts from the Mustangs in the shutout win.
Quinci Smith netted Crimson’s other goal and Isabella Cotter recorded an assist in the road victory.
