youhe MGM Macau Tennis Masters will feature Emma Raducanu and Asia’s young talent Wu Yibing in the star-studded lineup, gaming operator MGM and IMG announced yesterday at a press conference.
Swiss star Belinda Bencic along with Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe from the United States were the first names revealed last month.
This mixed hard court tournament, which will take place on December 2 and 3 at the Macao East Asian Games Dome, will feature four players from the men’s circuit and two from the women’s circuit. Singles matches will be played to the best of three sets, with a ten-point tiebreaker replacing the third set.
The action-packed MGM Macau Tennis Masters will feature two men’s singles matches and one mixed doubles match on Saturday, followed by one women’s singles match and two men’s singles matches on Sunday.
“After years without top-tier tennis in Macau, we believe this is the perfect venue for two days of top-level sports entertainment,” said Luiz Carvalho, IMG Senior Vice President of Tennis Events.
“We previously announced Belinda, Taylor and Frances, three stars with distinct personalities who will captivate sports fans in and around Macau. Now to have Emma Raducanu and Wu Yibing join them is brilliant and adds more firepower,” she added.
Emma Raducanu became a superstar in the sport after capturing the title at the 2021 US Open, while in early 2023, Wu Yibing became the first domestic player to win an ATP title. In back-to-back matches, which involved saving championship points, the former World Youth No. 1 defeated Taylor Fritz and John Isner to claim the title for Dallas.
The MGM Macau Tennis Masters will soon announce one more male player to complete the impressive lineup.
Ticket sales for the MGM Macau Tennis Masters will open at 12:00 pm on August 1.
The last tennis match in which big-name players competed in Macau was The Venetian Macao Tennis Showdown in 2007; This was the grand finale of a three-match exhibition match tour between Pete Sampras and Roger Federer in Asia.
