Canada vs France

South Africa vs New Zealand

SVNS Cape Town – 9th-12th places:

Spain 7-31 Great Britain

Great Britain have been unlucky in this tournament playing some good 7’s rugby over this weekend and would hope to finish their campaign on a high against a perseverant Spanish team. The first half is all Great Britain up until Spain are able to sneak a try before the end of play to give themselves some hope. Time runs out for the end of the game and both teams look to play on showing great spirit which results as the nail in the coffin for Spain as Great Britain win this play-off game and the 9th place medal.

Samoa 24-19 USA

Nobody ever expected these two teams to be in this play-off game but both sides with electric footwork and slick hands to entertain this crowd. USA have started this game well but Samoa strike on the hooter of half-time and the scoreboard reads 12-12. USA sneak home against the defending champions of Cape Town 7’s to claim 11th place.

SVNS Cape Town Quarterfinals:

Argentina 33-0 Canada

Argentina came out the blocks with great intention as they took an early lead against Canada with the scoreboard reading 19-0 to the mighty Argentinians. Argentina were relentless and finished off a perfectly well-rounded game against Canada who played out of their socks yesterday. Argentina looking like strong contenders for this tournament in Cape Town.

Ireland 36-21 New Zealand

The Irish came into this match having never beaten New Zealand in a 7’s game after 10 previous meetings. This certainly fueled their ambitions for a victory after having a dream start with scoring four unanswered tries against a New Zealand side that has looked fragile at times. Terry Kennedy leads the charge for the men in green after scoring a hat-trick in the first half which proves to be too much for the Kiwis as Ireland become the second team to make history against the All Blacks in the tournament.

Australia 28-0 South Africa

South Africa looked to start strong against an Australian side where both teams could be title contenders. The crowd goes silent early into the game as the Aussie men got to an early start leading the home side by two tries in the first half. The Blitzboks continued to let the chances go a begging with zero visits into the opposition’s 22m area in the second half which gave Australia the ticket to the next stage of the tournament which is the Semi-finals.

Fiji 29-24 France

Fiji started this game with a quick three unanswered tries but France did well to pull two tries back to narrow the deficit going into the half-time break 17-14 to Fiji. France come out in the second half with some slick hands and good patience as they made an incredible comeback but in the last movement of the game; Fiji has scored to take this game to Golden Point.

SVNS Cape Town Ninth-place play-off

Samoa 17-24 Spain

It was always going to be an interesting match-up between these two sides as the Spanish closed out the first half leading by a try against a vulnerable Samoan 7’s team who haven’t been up to their usual standards this tournament. The Spaniards looked to do more with the ball as they continued to build confidence against the top tier 7’s nations. The Samoans would go on to have a better second half to bring the scores close but just didn’t have the legs to keep the Spanish out from having the last say and the convincing win.

Great Britain 21-14 USA

It’s a rematch of day one as Great Britain came into the game with their tails up after pipping the United States in extra-time of the third round. The first half ends with Great Britain getting the better of their opponents again with a couple of well-worked tries before the Eagles could respond with a try of their own. The game would end with Great Britain walking away with bragging rights to finish the game in normal time and a second consecutive win over the Americans.
