Holiday craft, art fairs, festivals are a plenty – El Defensor Chieftain

Magdalena conducted its 12th annual craft fair at the Magdalena School Fine Arts center on Dec. 2

“It was a success this year. We had lots of customers and great vendors,” Linda Montoya co-organizer of the fair, said.

Montoya said that in 2011 she and Wanda Mansell started the craft fair as a fundraiser for Old Timer’s Indian and Spanish village. Without Oldtimers in recent years, they plan on using the money for a college scholarship for a Magdalena senior.
“After teaching here for 30 years I have seen the need for the community to encourage our students to continue their education either in college or a trade school,” Montoya said.

Montoya credited the creative industries grant for financially supporting the event.
Magdalena’s Craft show was not the only opportunity for local shopping over the weekend in Socorro County. There was also the Christmas Craft Market at the Knights of Columbus Hall and the Enchanted Arts Market at the Socorro Teen Center.
