Brewers place Wade Miley on disabled list – MLB Trade Rumors

The Brewers placed the lefty wade miley on the 15-day disabled list due to elbow discomfort and recalled the right-hander trevor megill Triple-A Nashville, according to a team announcement. Miley tells Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that she’s not dealing with a ligament problem (Twitter links). Rather, she’s been shooting through bone spurs in her elbow. Miley has already received an injection of platelet-rich plasma to help combat the pain and manager Craig Counselor he told Hogg and others today that the team is hopeful it will only be a minimal absence.
It’s the second IL stint of the season for Miley, who went on the disabled list on May 17 with a sideline strain. She was sidelined until June 17 with that injury and will now be sidelined again for a yet to be determined period of time.
Miley, 36, has thrown a terrific 3.06 ERA in 67 2/3 innings this season and was particularly sharp between seasons in IL, posting a 2.08 ERA with a 22-to-10 K/BB ratio and ground ball rate. of 45.1%. in 26 innings in five starts. Overall, she has struck a well-below 16.7% average for her opponents in 2023, but she also has a solid 6.9% walk rate. She has done a good job limiting hard contact (87.6 mph avg exit velocity) and keeping the ball in the yard (1.06 HR/9) despite the home run-friendly venue.
Miley joins righty brandon woodruff and fellow lefty Aaron Ashby on the disabled list. Milwaukee figures to deploy Corbin Burnes, freddy peralta, July Tehran, Adrian Houser and colin rea in rotation at the moment.
That might be a short fix, though. Woodruff is headed for a minor league rehab assignment Saturday, according to Counsell (Twitter link via Sophia Minnert of Bally Sports Wisconsin). Ashby is also trending toward a rehab assignment, Hogg tweetsalthough the plan for now is to bring him back to the big leagues as a reliever instead of a starter.
If both Miley and Woodruff remain on track to return sooner rather than later, the Brewers may well feel they have enough rotation depth. But there’s minimal depth beyond the current group, hence the previous signing of Tehran, who has been a staff savior in eight starts, so if any of them make some sort of mishap, it could have Milwaukee looking for additions between now. and the deadline of August 1.
