Bagels Take Over D.C.’s Breakfast Scene

For decades, the East Coast has been known for its delicious bagels. But it wasn’t until recently that Washington D.C. joined the ranks of cities with a thriving bagel scene.

In a city known for its political intrigue and lobbying, D.C.’s bagel culture is quickly becoming a point of pride. With new bagel shops popping up around the city, locals and visitors alike are indulging in traditional and unique bagel flavors.

One notable shop is Call Your Mother Deli, which opened in 2018 and quickly became a local favorite. Its menu features classic flavors like plain and everything, as well as more adventurous options like pastrami and kimchi.

Other shops like Bullfrog Bagels and Bethesda Bagels also offer a variety of flavors, and have become popular spots for locals to grab a quick breakfast or lunch.

Even national chains like New York-based Black Seed Bagels have opened locations in D.C., adding to the city’s growing reputation as a bagel destination.

So why the sudden rise in D.C.’s bagel scene? Some credit the city’s growing Jewish population, while others point to the rise of foodie culture and the demand for artisanal products.

Regardless of the reason, one thing is certain: D.C.’s bagel scene is here to stay. And with new shops and flavors constantly emerging, there’s never been a better time to enjoy a freshly baked bagel in the nation’s capital.
